PO "National Union of people with disabilities of Tajikistan" (NUPT)
The public organization "National Union of people with disabilities of Tajikistan" (NUPT) is the largest organization of people with disabilities functioning in the Republic of Tajikistan. “NUPT” was organized with a direct initiative of people with disabilities in 1990. The purpose of the organization is to represent, protect the rights and interests of persons with disabilities on the territory of the Republic of Tajikistan. The organization has about 50,000 beneficiaries and has 35 offices in regions, cities and districts of Tajikistan. In accordance with the new Law on Public Organizations, the PO “NUPT” on November 16, 2007, was re-registered with the Ministry of Justice under the number 302 A.
Activities and Achievements
“NUPT” conducts its activities at the national and international level, contributing to the implementation of national and international laws concerning people with disabilities, as well as to ensure equal opportunities for persons with disabilities and their active participation in all spheres of public life.
Cooperation:
Since its inception, “NUPT” has had close partnerships with the Government of Tajikistan. On the initiative of "NUPT" and the support of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan in 2004, "July 8" was adopted as the Day of people with disabilities and Elderly People of the Republic of Tajikistan. Since 2006, the organization has been carrying out its activities aimed at the adoption and ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
March 22, 2018, Founder of peace and national unity – Leader of the nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, in New York signed a memorandum on joining the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which is a great achievement of the movement of people with disabilities in Tajikistan. When the Republic of Tajikistan joined the Convention, the organization of people with disabilities aims to ensure that this document is ratified as soon as possible and people with disabilities can participate in all spheres of public life.
In the course of its activities, “NUPT” works closely with the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, international organizations, including the United Nations Development Program in the Republic of Tajikistan, the OSCE Program Office in Dushanbe, UNICEF, the Red Crescent Society and the Red Cross in Tajikistan, as well as local public organizations and actively participate in the development of legislation and other regulations related to the social protection of persons with disabilities.
“NUPT” is a full member of the Public Council under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Coordination Council for the Social Protection of Persons with Disabilities under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, and a member of the Working Group of the Committee of Architecture and Construction under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan. Also, the “NUPT” is a member of the International Union of Organizations of Persons with disabilities of the Post-Soviet Space, the Founder of the Central Asian Forum of Persons with disabilities and in 2018 passed accreditation at the UN to participate in events related to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
