NGO “National Association of Disabled Persons of Tajikistan” (“NOIT”)

The public organization “National Association of Disabled Persons of Tajikistan” (“NOIT”) is the largest organization of disabled people operating in the Republic of Tajikistan. “NIIT” was organized with the direct initiative of people with disabilities themselves in 1990. The purpose of the organization is to represent and protect the rights and interests of people with disabilities on the territory of the Republic of Tajikistan. The organization has about 50,000 beneficiaries and has 35 representative offices in regions, cities and districts of Tajikistan. In accordance with the new Law on Public Organizations, the NGO “NOIT” was re-registered with the Ministry of Justice under number 302 A on November 16, 2007.

Activities and achievements

«NOIT» operates at the national and international level, contributing to the implementation of national and international laws relating to people with disabilities, as well as to ensure equal opportunities for people with disabilities and their active participation in all spheres of public life.

Since the beginning of its activities, «NOIT» has had close partnerships with the Government of Tajikistan. On the initiative of “NOIT” and the support of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, in 2004 “July 8” was adopted as the day of the disabled and elderly in the Republic of Tajikistan. Since 2006, the organization has been carrying out its activities aimed at the adoption and ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

On March 22, 2018, the Founder of Peace and National Unity — Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, respected Emomali Rahmon, signed a memorandum of accession to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in New York City, which is a great achievement of the movement of people with disabilities in Tajikistan. When the Republic of Tajikistan joined the Convention, the activities of the organization of people with disabilities are aimed at ensuring that this document is ratified as soon as possible and people with disabilities can participate in all spheres of public life.

Cooperation:

In the course of its activities, NOIT closely cooperates with the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, international organizations, including the UN Development Program in the Republic of Tajikistan, the OSCE program office in Dushanbe, UNICEF, the Red Crescent and Red Cross Societies in Tajikistan, as well as local public organizations and actively participate in the development of legislative and other regulations related to the social protection of people with disabilities.

“NOIT” is a full member of the “Public Council under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan”, “Coordination Council for Social Protection of Disabled Persons” under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, as well as a member of the Working Group of the Committee of Architecture and Construction under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan. Also, “NOIT” is a member of the International Union of Organizations of Disabled Persons of the Post-Soviet Countries (IUCI), the Founder of the Central Asian Forum of Disabled Persons (CAFI) and in 2018 was accredited by the UN to participate in events related to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
