
Improving Employment Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities through Accessible Environment Creation
From January to May 2023, the National Association of Persons with Disabilities of Tajikistan, with the support of the United Nations Office in Tajikistan, implemented an important project titled “Improving Employment Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities through Accessible Environment Creation.” This project focused on studying and improving the legal framework related to the employment of persons with disabilities, as well as analyzing and implementing best practices from Central Asian countries.
Legal Framework Research
As part of the project, a desk study was conducted to assess the compliance of Tajikistan’s legislation with the principles of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Special attention was given to Tajikistan’s Labor Code and the Law on Social Protection of Persons with Disabilities, focusing on the right to work and the concept of reasonable accommodation.
Analysis of Best Practices
The project included an analysis of best practices in Central Asian countries that have ratified the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The main goal was to identify effective national legislative and executive mechanisms ensuring the right to employment for persons with disabilities.
Educational Sessions
As part of the program, 10 awareness-raising sessions were developed and conducted for lawmakers, representatives of public and private companies, disability organizations, and parents of children with disabilities. These sessions helped to increase awareness and understanding of key aspects of disability employment.
National Roundtable
One of the key events of the project was a national roundtable dedicated to employment opportunities for persons with disabilities. It gathered representatives from government agencies, the private sector, disability organizations, parents of children with disabilities, media, experts from Central Asia, and development partners. The roundtable served as an important platform for discussions and the development of recommendations to improve employment opportunities for persons with disabilities in Tajikistan.

The “Improving Employment Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities” project plays a significant role in fostering an inclusive society in Tajikistan. Research, educational programs, and national-level collaboration contribute to enhancing the rights and opportunities of persons with disabilities, creating conditions for their full participation in the country’s labor market.
