Seminar on Climate Change and Adaptive Measures for Persons with Disabilities in Tajikistan

On May 7 and 8, a unique seminar titled “Climate Change, Its Consequences, and Adaptive Measures in Tajikistan” was held at the office of the National Association of Persons with Disabilities of Tajikistan (NAPD). This important event was part of the project “Enhancing the Capacity of Regional Activists on Climate Change and Its Impact on Persons with Disabilities,” supported by the Eurasia Foundation.

The seminar brought together recognized experts in climatology and emergency response. Among them were Natalia Idrisova, listed among the BBC’s 100 Most Influential Women of 2023, and Aziz Azizbekov, a representative of the Committee for Emergency Situations under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan. Participants also included leaders of organizations for persons with disabilities from regions under republican subordination and Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).

The event covered crucial topics related to climate change and its specific effects on persons with disabilities. Solutions proposed included conscious consumption, use of renewable energy, and green city planning. The seminar also addressed issues of emergency management and response during crises.

This event highlighted the importance of integrating climate change into the agenda of civil society organizations, particularly those working with persons with disabilities. In the face of global climate change, adaptation and resilience are key elements for ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens.

The project is implemented with the support of the Eurasia Foundation and the Social Innovation in Central Asia (SICA) program, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

This event is a vivid example of how international cooperation and local initiatives can help address global environmental challenges and improve lives.
